Parent Testimonials

In the first 6 months of ABA therapy, my son Spencer experienced amazing growth and improvement. His independent reading and sentence creation turned on like a light bulb. His social confidence and interactions increased to levels that had him engaging in conversations like never before. His increase in self esteem resulted in his exerting age appropriate requests for independence. Overall, he is participating more in all aspects of life with more ease and joy. I am thrilled with these results and look forward to his continued growth and improvement!

I cannot imagine where our family would be today without NBA. Whether your family has just received a diagnosis or has been on the road for awhile, NBA's incredible staff will bring their courageous hearts and incredible talents to focus on your situation. Besides ABA therapy (which they are justifiably renowned for) NBA has helped us find a home tutor , write IEP goals, has attended school meetings and did an in-home potty training day with us. As if working eleven hour days wasn't enough - NBA holds evening parent workshops. This parenting class was one "Aha!" moment after another for me. Get involved with NBA - you will always be grateful that you did.

Wendy, The work you’ve done with Marcus has helped prepare him for functioning in a world that seems foreign to him. Repetition, Role Playing, Social Stories coupled with a reward system has worked to increase his ability to understand other people and himself. Your caring for my son and other children with similar differences is a blessing to us all.

Northwest Behavioral Associates has been helping our daughter and family for about 2 years now. We have been so impressed with her progress - the results are measurable and exciting. Our daughter works with a Program Manager, 2 home therapists, and is in a Play Skills Class. We also took the parenting class which focuses on behavior management. We are eternally grateful to each staff member who has consulted with us on her programs, outside education, and parenting. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, professional, caring, and creative. I have recommended NBA to several people and will continue to do so.

It is not often that we encounter exceptional people offering exceptional services. But we found one such group of people who have changed our lives in a very positive way. And it’s right here, at Northwest Behavioral Associates in Bellevue, WA. Working with NBA has been a pleasurable and wonderful experience for our family. Dr. Stacey Shook, the director, is brilliant. She is a very professional and punctual person whose primary focus is to help children and their families. She has been "part of our family" for several years and has helped our child, as well as many other children, learn skills that seemed very tough. We would love to say the same about Jane Shively, the assistant Director of NBA, who has stepped in to help our child on many occasions. We absolutely adore her and her expertise. Our child is doing great now. I feel he has been learning a lot and continues to do so everyday. The programs are really tailored to fit his needs. We are very proud of our child. He is such a trooper. But we feel the same pride in being part of the NBA family. We always knew that our son could do it, but we needed some truly gifted people to reach out to him and bring him here. Je t'aime NBA …..We love you.

NBA has introduced our daughter to us. She was almost non-verbal and had very little skills when she joined NBA 18 months back (when she was almost 4 years old). Our daughter has gone from being severely autistic to moderately functional today. Stacey and her staff are amongst the very few extremely dedicated people we have come across. This extremely competent crew has become a part of our family. Apart from creating and running excellent programs for our kid they go above and beyond by devising solutions for problems wherever they occur. They work very closely with the school to make sure that all issues are handled in a consistent and effective manner across the board. They have been extremely prompt in responding to emails / phone concerning our daughter, and their responses always have a solution to our problems. Starting with NBA is the greatest thing that ever happened to our family to deal autism. We are pretty optimistic that in our travel down the road - laid by Stacey and Graydon – our daughter would soon be a high functioning and disciplined kid.

Thank You, Shobha-Vijay.

Eight years ago, I remember picking up a parents magazine and reading an article about late talkers. As soon as I finished the article, I knew what was wrong with my son. He had the classic symptoms of autism. I remember researching all of the centers that were mentioned in the article looking for answers and resources. I spent the following month trying to find out what could be done to help him because I was determined that my son was going to be a happy person no matter what it would take. Upon the advice of a special needs consultant then, we flew halfway across the world to have him diagnosed. All through my research I kept thinking, “I will not come back empty handed; I need answers on how to help my son.” During my research, I stumbled upon a center called Northwest Behavioral Associates and sent them an email for more information about their center and the possibility of meeting when we arrived in Seattle. Months later and a couple of days before traveling I received an email from Dr. Stacey Shook confirming our visit to their center and I remember thinking, “Oh well, we might as well do it since they are on our way”. THAT EMAIL SAVED MY SON’S LIFE. In July 2001, we arrived in Seattle. My husband and I spent the day in silence not knowing yet how and what could be done for our son. I knew from my research that ABA was the only proven intervention to help children like our son; the UW diagnostic meeting confirmed my findings. I remember leaving the UW with the urge to cry, to scream, and to run away. I felt helpless and lost and ALMOST cancelled the appointment we made with NBA that afternoon; but then I thought about Dr. Shook’s email and how she’d gone out of her way to respond to us so we started off for Kirkland. I remember walking into that building and there was and meeting Dr. Shook and her staff; that was the most important meeting we had for our son that summer. Khalid and I walked out of that office and said the same thing at the same time, “She is definitely hired”. We thought the NBA staff was the most professional people we had met in our journey that summer. They were so clear and organized. I remember asking her, “Would you please show me what the program would look like?” and she pulled out this huge file organized with sample individualized programs that our son will learn in his daily sessions. We knew that if anyone could help us, it would be this group of dedicated and organized professionals. I do thank God every day for showing up to our appointment that summer. Our son is now 10 years old with the nicest smile on his face. If I die tomorrow, I know he will be okay with so many loving people around him. Our life would not have been the same without the support of NBA but most importantly without the dedication of Dr. Stacey Shook.

Thank you, Luma
